Myanmar Agriculture Ministry announces cattle registration programme
The new identification system, which aims to track the 11 million cattle in the country, will eventually aid the implementation of animal health insurance for farmers, reported Myanmar Times.
U Tun Lwin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said the proposed ‘ear chip' identification system will identify the cattle's owner, address, age and registration for official records. The ministry targets to catalogue all cattle produced in the country.
He added that these official registration records will eventually assist in the implementation of animal health insurance for livestock in Myanmar.
The ministry will store all animal registration records, and the animal health insurance programme is expected to be underwritten by the Myanmar Insurance Enterprise.
U Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister of Commerce said interested investors have been invited by the Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary to submit proposals with regard to implementing this identification system.
