In January-October 2012, Vietnam is estimated to have spent US$685 million on importing 2.2 million tonnes of wheat.
The figures represent a year-on-year decrease of 1.2% in value and an increase of 10.8% in volume, the General Statistics Office said on Friday (Oct.26) in its report.
In October, the country is likely to import 140,000 tonnes worth US$50 million compared to 223,000 tonnes worth US$79 million in September.
Earlier the Vietnam Customs reported that the country spent US$657.62 million on importing 2.12 million tonnes of wheat in the year as of October 15. Vietnam imports wheat from Australia, the US, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and Turkey.
The Southeast Asian country imported 2.39 million tonnes of wheat worth US$802 million worth in 2011.
