Trouw Nutrition Canada acquires feed and grain company

Tavistock-based Yantzi Feed and Seed has been purchased by Trouw Nutrition Canada (Shur-Gain) effective November 1, Stratford Beacon Herald reported.

The purchase includes the feed manufacturing, grain storage, crop input facility and retail store in Tavistock, on top of the company's grain elevator northeast of Tavistock, and its retail store and crop input business in Brunner.

"This is an important trading area for us, and we wanted to make sure it will continue to be covered," said Kevin Weppler, Trouw Nutrition's Ontario general manager. "The feed mill in Tavistock allows us to continue manufacturing feed - gives us more capacity. … The elevator is a grain storage unit, so it gives us the capability to store more corn than we would normally, and the seed business is complementary to the livestock business."

Yantzi has been operating as a Shur-Gain dealer for more than 60 years.

"Yantzi Feed & Seed Ltd. has been a very loyal Shur-Gain dealer since our establishment in 1958," the company's president Steve Yantzi said in a press release. "Our family has discussed several options for the business, and we feel that the best fit for us and our customers is to become a part of Shur-Gain."

All current Yantzi employees will remain with the business.
