Malaysia's Koternak to buy MYR50-million worth of cattle semen
Koternak signed an agreement with UK's Lordswood Farms to buy semen and embryos from Lordswood's world renowned herd of Montbeliarde cattle.
Koternak was introduced to Malcolm Pearce, CEO of Lordswood Farms, UK, by Chris Jackson of the British Pig Association. This marks the first time in many years that a UK-based cattle breeder has been asked to supply semen to Malaysia.
Koternak recognises the significant advantages that Montbeliarde breed can bring in terms of increased milk yield, milk quality and beef production. Jagjit Singh, chairman of Koternak, mentioned in the ceremony that he is keen on buying MYR50-million worth of semen for the next five years from Lordswood Farms.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture and Agro based Industry, Malaysia. The agreement was witnessed by Boyd McCleary, the British High Commissoner.
Koternak (Koperasi Penternak & Pengimport Ternakan Malaysia Berhad) was established in 2008 and is the first national livestock cooperative to represent all farmers, with aims to improve the socio-economic status of the farmers through livestock development projects.
Lordswood Farms was established for more than 40 years now and is currently developing its business in Asia.
