Five Malaysian poultry producers given extension to refute chicken cartel allegations

Five Malaysian poultry producers have been given until December 19 by the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) to refute allegations of involvement in a chicken cartel, The Sun Daily reported.

MyCC had previously instructed the five companies doing business on the west coast to submit representations by October 21; however, the deadline had been extended due to the complexity of the case, according to Datuk Rosol Wahid, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

He said MyCC has carried out a thorough investigation and discovered proof of their participation in chicken cartel activities.

He said at their request, MyCC agreed to give an extension for them to submit proof of denial as it is a complex case.

He was speaking at the 'CA2010@University' programme with MyCC and Food Bank Malaysia's dialogue with students of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) in this location

Additionally present were UMT Alumni and Student Affairs, Culture and Arts Center Director Badruhisham Darus, MyCC Chief Executive Officer Iskandar Ismail, and UniSZA Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Hafiz Yusof, who serves as the deputy vice chancellor for student and alumni affairs.
