China Hog: Price fall slows (week ended Oct 23, 2020)

As the availability of hog continued to increase with the government adamant to tame inflation, prices of hog slid further. However, price falls were prominently slower. Falling for the fourth consecutive week, hog prices have plummeted 12% accumulatively.

Hog slaughter volumes in major wholesale centres expanded 6.1% to 6,198 tonnes.

Pork prices should consolidate around current levels in the coming week. In anticipation of a stronger market entering November due to the manufacturing of cured meat products, hog producers will be inclined to hold back releases while prices are low.
