Netherlands' cattle farmers to pay surcharge for government animal health fund
Beef and dairy farmers in the country will contribute €2.44 (~US$2.70) to the fund for each livestock exported or slaughtered, reported Dutch News.
The Netherlands Farm Ministry said the animal health fund is allocated towards the prevention and monitoring of livestock diseases, an expense that could amount to millions of euros.
The surcharge comes during a period where the country's farmers are objecting to measures implemented by the government towards farmers to combat nitrogen-based pollution.
Contribution from the cattle industry is currently paid from reserves by product boards.
Sheep, goat and swine farmers have been contributing to the fund.
