Argentina sees growth in poultry, pig and dairy production
 

 

Argentina's poultry, pig and dairy production grew 170%, 109% and 43% respectively in the last 10 years, while per-capita consumption of the three food sectors grew by 5% to 9.2% per year, between 2003 and 2012.

 

Debora Giorgi, the country's minister of industry, stressed that the poultry, dairy and swine sectors have enormous growth potential to supply the domestic market and for exports.

 

Giorgi said that the Industrial Strategic Plan 2020 is a roadmap to advance ahead of the next decade and that the country has all the conditions to become a leading global food producer.

 

The Argentine government raised the need to continue working on supplying the growing domestic market and improving exportations as well. According to Giorgi, the state will continue with the delivery of soft loans to gain scale and productivity, find new markets to diversify exports and promote increased domestic consumption of poultry and pork.

 

In the last 10 years, pig production grew 109% (at an annual average of 9%). Per capita consumption increased by 60% since 2003 (5% on-year). Exports in 2012 increased by 57% over the previous year and since 2003, grew at a rate of 5% each year.

 

Leaders agreed to reach a production level of 822,000 tonnes, with consumption at 13kg per person, and exports at US$451 million by 2020.

 

From 2003-12, poultry production increased by 170% (at a rate of 12% each year). Per capita consumption increased by 116% from 2003-12 (average 9% annual rate). Exports in 2012 increased  by 23% over the previous year. Since 2003, they have grew by an average of 36%.

 

In 2020, the poultry sector plans to reach a production rate of three million tonnes, with a per capita consumption of 50kg and export at US$2.475 million.

 

Between 2003 and 2012, dairy industry production has increased by 43%. Consumption per capita increased by 20% since 2003, an average of 2% annually. Since 2003, exports grew by 422%.

 

The 2020 IEP goals for the sector is to reach a production of 18,200 million litres of milk annually, with a per capita consumption of 235 per person, and exports at US$3,248 million.
