Vietnam's feed and feed ingredients import dropped 5.8% in first eight months this year

 

 

 

Vietnam has imported 10.83 million tonnes of animal feed and feed ingredients in the first eight months of 2023, according to the country's Department of Animal Husbandry.

 

The amount is a 5.8% drop in volume compared to the same period last year. It also equals to US$4.5 billion in value, a 11% decline.

 

Of the 10.83 million tonnes, energy-rich feed makes up 6.06 million tonnes, protein-rich feed makes up 4.43 million tonnes and complementary feed makes up 325,000 tonnes.

 

For livestock products, in the first eight months of this year, the import value is estimated at US$2,296 million, down 8.9% over the same period last year.

 

Of this value, milk and dairy products reached US$810.1 million, down 11.3%; meat and meat by-products and edible by-products (after slaughter) were estimated at US$887 million.

 

Meanwhile, in the first eight months, Vietnam imported 2,775 female pigs and 1,209 boars. It also imported 1,880,296 breeding animals.

 

Additionally, the total number of egg-oriented breed chickens imported is 296,253.

 

In the period, Vietnam imported 68,391 animals.

 

As for the country's exports, the export value of livestock products in the period reached US$324.8 million, up 26.1% over the same period — of which exports of milk and dairy products reached US$91 million, up 24.2%. Meat and edible meat by-products (after slaughter) reached US$93.3 million, up 33.6%.
