Nichirei Foods temporarily stopped production of chicken products in Thailand due to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Nichirei Foods' production of chicken products in Thailand, as the Japanese company temporarily halted operations at one of its Thai processing plants due to a labor shortage.

Many workers outside Thailand could not enter the country due to the spread of the coronavirus across Southeast Asia. The affected factory has since resumed operations, but working at reduced capacity.

Nichirei Foods said it may suspend sales of some frozen products manufactured in Thailand.

Additionally, Nippon Suisan Kaisha put on hold the launch of a frozen product originally scheduled for September. The firm said operations of some production lines in the country were limited due to staff shortages caused by the pandemic.

Ajinomoto Frozen Foods said supermarkets and other stores in Japan have run short of its products as supplies from one of its Thai plants have been lower than initially estimated.
