Brazil rejects soy use for biodiesel
Brazil's biodiesel programme cannot be dependent on soy and other sources must be found and promoted, according to Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Friday (Oct 23).
There cannot be dependence on soy as it is a food, and the use of new oilseeds must be encouraged in order to diversify production, he said.
He pointed out that if soy prices rise sharply because of foreign demand, there could be supply shortage for biodiesel production.
Once it is part of the energy matrix, there can't be a biodiesel shortage, said the president.
