Pfizer to expand Michigan veterinary facilities

Pfizer's veterinary medicine R&D group will expand its Kalamazoo, Michigan facilities, bringing the workforce to over 700.

Pfizer's veterinary medicine R&D group will be growing by roughly 50 positions over the next six months. Company spokesman Rick Chambers said this will include some job transfers from legacy Fort Dodge sites following Pfizer's purchase of Wyeth.

As a result, Pfizer plans to close the Overland Park office that had been the headquarters of Fort Dodge Animal Health. This will affect 200 jobs.

According to the Kansas City Star, most of Fort Dodge Animal Health's business and administrative functions will move to Pfizer Animal Health's Madison, New Jersey, headquarters.

Chambers said the company has no timetable for the move. Pfizer intends to keep a focus on its veterinary medicines due to a growing global market.
