Pilgrim's Pride to expand prepared poultry production
US poultry giant Pilgrim's Pride Corp. (PPC) has acquired a prepared foods plant in Bossier city, Louisiana State, from Wayne Farms. The plant could produce 50 million pounds of prepared food a year and its acquisition was part of PPC's long-term strategy to add value through continued growth in prepared foods.
The company said extra capacity provided by the plant would increase growth of its prepared foods division, which was seen to be one of the fastest growing and most profitable segments of the poultry industry.
In addition, the new plant was strategically located, allowing the company to supply products to it from nearby facilities in Louisiana. PPC said its warehousing and distribution network was also well located in the region to support the plant's operations.
