Financial aid disbursed to dairy farmers impacted by LSD in India

India's Animal Husbandry Department has initiated the distribution of financial assistance to dairy farmers who suffered losses due to the lumpy skin disease affecting their cattle, The Hindu reported.

India's Minister for Animal Husbandry, J Chinchurani, assured the affected farmers of the government's full support during this challenging period. The initial disbursement of financial aid took place in Kerala state, benefitting 146 farmers. The distribution of assistance is scheduled to continue in various other districts in the near future.

Lumpy skin disease has claimed the lives of 854 cattle, including cows, heifers, and calves, in several districts. To alleviate the farmers' financial burdens, the government is providing INR 30,000 in aid for cows, INR 16,000 for heifers, and INR 5,000 for calves.

Kerala sets a significant precedent as the first state to offer financial assistance to farmers affected by lumpy skin disease. This vital assistance is being provided through the Plan Fund of India's Animal Husbandry Department.
