Philippines identifies more African swine fever cases in two provinces
African swine fever (ASF) was detected in Cavite, south of Manila and in Nueva Ecija on Luzon Island, reported Reuters.
Jonvic Remulla, Cavite Governor said ASF cases were identified in two villages in the province, while William Dar, Agriculture Secretary said Nueva Ecija on Luzon Island has confirmed infections.
The country has intensified animal quarantine procedures since announcing its first outbreak on September 9 in an effort to safeguard its US$5 billion swine industry.
More than 30,000 pigs have been culled in provinces affected by ASF. ASF has been contained in Luzon, northern Philippines, so far.
Pork from ASF-hit provinces and Metropolitan Manila have been banned by provinces in central and southern Philippines to protect local swine industries.
