Sierra Leone announces suspected African swine fever outbreak

The country's Ministry of Health and Sanitation issued warnings with regard to consuming dead swine as African swine fever (ASF) cases were reported in the capital Freetown, reported Xinhua.

Mohamed Vandi, Director at the Directorate of Health Security and Emergencies in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation said the ministry is concerned about the infrequent incidences of suspected ASF in the capital but reiterates the disease does not affect humans.

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are working together to increase investigations in affected communities.

ASF samples have been sent overseas to be tested.
