Japanese executives arrested for labeling chicken and pork as beef
Former executives of the Japanese meat packing company Meat Hope Co. were arrested Wednesday (October 24, 2007) for falsely labeling minced meat containing pork and chicken as beef, according to Kyodo News Service.
The former Meat Hope president and three other senior executives allegedly sold a total of 138 tonnes of meat containing pork and chicken labeled as 100 percent beef to 10 companies in Hokkaido and seven companies in seven other districts from July last year to June this year.
Business fell sharply after the alleged mislabeling was discovered in June, forcing the company to shut down in July.
