Ukrainian firms MHP and Avangardco named largest poultry and egg producers in Europe

Ukrainian agribusiness leaders MHP and Avangardco were recognised as the largest poultry and egg producers in Europe by WATTPoultry International, Euromaiden Press reported.

Ukraine's agribusiness sector continues to face significant challenges due to Russia's ongoing invasion, which has disrupted farming, production, and exports. Despite more than 30% of the country's arable land being in combat zones, Ukraine remains a crucial global supplier of grain, meat, and vegetable oil.

The rankings confirmed MHP as Europe's leading poultry producer, with an annual output of 704 million birds. This surpasses the UK-based 2 Sisters Food Group, which produces 525 million birds annually, and France's LDC, with 477.3 million birds. MHP employs over 32,000 workers, including more than 4,000 employees outside of Ukraine.

Avangardco, another prominent Ukrainian agribusiness, secured its position as Europe's top egg producer, managing 13.3 million laying hens annually. This places the company ahead of Poland's Wozniak Poultry Farms, with 11 million hens, and Denmark's DAVA Foods Holding, with 7.4 million hens.

In addition, Ukraine's Ovostar Union ranked sixth among European egg producers, with 6.4 million hens.

Globally, MHP ranked eighth in WATTPoultry International's list of the largest poultry producers, following major players like Brazil's JBS, with 4.44 billion birds, and the US-based Tyson Foods, with 2.08 billion birds. Avangardco placed 15th among global egg producers, competing with leading firms such as the US-based Cal-Maine Foods, which manages 44.5 million hens, and Mexico's Proteina Animal, with 40 million hens.
