IoT Secure extends support for Scottish aquaculture firms

IoT Secure, spearheaded by IoT experts at CENSIS, the innovation centre for sensing, imaging, and IoT technologies at Scotland, the United Kingdom, has secured additional funding from the Scottish government to reach more companies across various sectors, including aquaculture, crucial to the Scottish economy, Fish Farmer reported.
IoT Secure offers cyber security workshops and one-to-one consultations to SMEs and startups interested in incorporating IoT (Internet of Things) technologies. Since its inception in the spring of 2020, the initiative has benefitted around 40 companies, with at least 10 more invited to participate in the next phase. The programme's operations will continue until March 2024 following the funding extension provided by the Scottish Government.
The programme is accessible to businesses that are either in the process of developing IoT products or services or are considering the implementation of IoT devices in their operations. CENSIS will collaborate with each company to identify their specific opportunities and challenges, offer guidance on adopting new processes, and provide advice on obtaining additional assistance, such as R&D grants.
Additionally, the programme will address forthcoming changes in cyber security regulations. The recently introduced Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill includes a regulatory framework aimed at enhancing the security of smart devices against cyber-attacks.
Cade Wells, business development director at CENSIS, expressed gratitude to the Scottish Government for extending funding for the IoT Secure programme. This extension enables CENSIS to continue collaborating with a growing network of SMEs and startups, including those in the aquaculture sector.
Wells said that supporting companies in enhancing their cyber security and resilience against an evolving range of threats remains a top priority. The programme aspires to demonstrate the advantages of integrating IoT technologies within more of Scotland's vital sectors while expanding outreach to a broader range of businesses.
