USDA reports increase in egg production for September 2023

In its latest report, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revealed that egg production saw a notable increase in September 2023, Brownfield Ag News reported.
The data indicated that a total of 9.16 billion eggs were laid during the month, marking a 3% surge compared to September 2022. This figure encompassed approximately 8 billion table eggs and 1.3 billion hatching eggs, with the majority intended for broiler production.
The report highlighted that the average number of layers and the rate of lay per day exceeded the levels recorded in the previous year.
The report also indicated that just over 51 million egg-type chicks were hatched in September 2023, reflecting a 4% decline compared to the prior year. This decline occurred despite an increase in the number of eggs in incubators and the domestic placements of pullets meant for future hatchery supply flocks.
Hatches of broiler-type chicks also experienced a slight dip, with a 3% decrease compared to last year. This decline was accompanied by a 4% reduction in broiler-type eggs in incubators and a minor decrease in broiler-type placements.
The USDA's updated poultry production projections is set to be released on November 9.
