Ukraine's meat output up 25 percent for Jan-Sep 2007
Ukraine's meat output grew nearly 25 percent to 690,500 tonnes in the first nine months of 2007 from 552,700 tonnes produced in the same period of the previous year, according to the State Statistics Committee.
Pork saw the fastest growth among the three major meats, with production up 23 percent to 117,000 tonnes during the period while poultry, the most common meat, grew the slowest at 6 percent to 348,000 tonnes. Beef output grew 18 percent to 139,900 tonnes.
Production of subproducts totalled 11,950 tonnes for January to September 2007, up 18 percent on an annual basis.
At this rate, Ukraine is likely to fall short of its targeted 2007 meat output of 1.9 million tonnes.
Meat consumption in Ukraine is projected at 44.3 kg per capita.
