A Potential of 8 million Tons of Soybean Output in China

It was reported on October 24 that there is still a potential of 8 million tons of soybean output to be tapped in China, according to the Chinese State Department.

Experts of China's Ministry of Agriculture make the analysis based on the following two key reasons:

 The sowing area could be expanded;

Per unit yield could be increased.

If China's soybean sowing area reaches 180 million mu ("mu" is a Chinese measurement unit of area, 1 mu =0.0667 hectares) and per mu yield reaches 150 kg in five years, China's total soybean output may top 27 million tons, which is an increase of more than 10 million tons from year 2002.
