USDA estimates see drops in sow inventories in China, EU and North America

 

 

 

A reduction in sow inventories is expected in China, the European Union and North America, according to the latest USDA estimates published on October 12.

 

However, Brazil is expected to see a significant increase in the number of sows.

 

China's sow inventory is expected to decrease by 2.3% in 2024 compared to 2023 and would stand at 42 million head.

 

The European Union is projected to see a 1.4% contraction in its sow herd, from 10.4 million to 10.25 million head.

 

Sow inventories in the United States and Canada are estimated to reach 6.09 million and 1.21 million head, down 0.2% and 1.6%, respectively.

 

For Brazil and Mexico, the leading producers in Latin America, growths of 3.2% and 0.4% are expected, with sow inventories of 3.2 and 1.31 million head, respectively.

 

Other countries, such as Russia, South Korea and Japan, are expected to see slight growth in their sow inventories of no more than 0.5%.
