Argentina grains up on CBOT; local demand

Argentine grain prices got a boost this week with solid local demand boosting corn and wheat prices and soy tracking the gains at the Chicago Board of Trade.

Spot corn wasn't traded Thursday (Oct 22), but March 2010 contracts changed hands at US$111 and US$113 per tonne at the Rosario Grain Exchange, down from US$105 a week ago.

Soy prices posted moderate gains on the week in line with the CBOT, where prices got a boost from a weaker dollar.

May 2010 soy futures traded at US$225 a tonne in Rosario Thursday, up from US$218 and US$220 a week ago.

Spot soy were traded at ARS975 (US$255) a tonne in Rosario Thursday, up from ARS970 a week ago.

Wheat futures were traded after a long break when an exporter stepped in to the market to lock in new crop contracts, the exchange said.

December wheat traded at US$130 a tonne Thursday. The contract wasn't traded last week.

Spot wheat hasn't been traded since mid June.
