Tip Top Poultry recalls its meat from stores over Listeria contamination

The chicken processing company issued a voluntary recall over all of its cooked, hot deboned fowl meal because of a possible Listeria contamination, reported CNN.

The recall comprised of Butterball, Perdue and Sysco branded ready-to-eat poultry products such as frozen cooked, diced, or shredded chicken.

These include any products produced at their Rockmart, Georgia facility between January 22, 2019 to September 24, 2019. Some of the stores included in the recall are Kroger, ALDI, Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly.

Until the source of the contamination has been found and destroyed, Tip Top Poultry will shut down its poultry cooking line. The company is a family-owned business.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has compiled a full list of retailers that may be affected by the recall.

All chicken products under the recall should be disposed or returned to its point of purchase immediately.

Consuming Listeria contaminated food can cause listeriosis. This infection affects pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, newborns and older adults.  Symptoms of listeriosis include fever and diarrhoea, muscle aches and headache. Those who may have consumed the infected chicken are advised to visit a doctor.
