India's oilmeal exports down 43% in first half of market year
India's leading oilmeal exports dipped 43% to 950,599 tonnes in the market year's first half ended September 30, from 1.65 million tonnes last year, according to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEAI).
In September alone, oilmeal exports dropped by 73% to 82,749 tonnes from 301,717 tonnes in September 2013.
The SEAI said oilmeal exports all registered huge drops during the April-September period:
-- South Korea: From 518,178 tonnes last year to 464,555 tonnes this year, or a drop of 53,623 tonnes;
-- Iran: From 571,171 tonnes to 142,357 tonnes (a drop of 428,814 tonnes);
-- Thailand: From 100,248 tonnes to 94,009 tonnes (a drop of 6,239 tonnes);
-- Vietnam: From 72,622 tonnes imported 70,051 tonnes (a drop of 2,571 tonnes);
-- Taiwan: From 45,817 tonnes to 39,528 tonnes (a drop of 6,289 tonnes); and
-- Europe: From 196,744 tonnes to 42,209 tonnes (a drop of 154,535).
India's oilmeal exports include rapeseed, castor and soymeals, and rice bran extracts.
During the six-month period, soymeal exports plunged due to lower soy harvests, according to SEAI.
However, SEAI said the share of rapeseed meal increased from 417,668 tonnes to 572,352 tonnes during the first half.
