Malaysian government assures plenty of egg supply in the country

Malaysia's Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs said there is ample supply of chicken eggs in the country, following reports of shortages in several areas, The Edge reported.

Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, the Ministry Secretary-General, said they work with several ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (Mafi), and continuously monitor the supply of chicken eggs on the market.

He added that there had been no complaints about traders or other parties hoarding chicken eggs up to that point, and that those responsible would face legal repercussions.

In order to guarantee that there is an adequate supply of eggs in the consumer market, he said he has also been in touch with the Mafi secretary-general, and their officers are having technical discussions with several ministries today.

Azman said that the scarcity of chicken eggs in some areas was likely brought on by issues with payment, remote locations, transportation, and logistics, which can easily cause delivery to be disrupted.

He also hopes that all business leaders will work with the interim administration to supply the market with enough food at fair prices, especially before Deepavali.
