South Africa signs beef export deal with Saudi Arabia
South Africa has signed a new beef export deal with Saudi Arabia, with up to 1,000 tonnes of beef annually expected to be shipped to the Middle Eastern nation, BusinessDay reported.
The new agreement signed between the governments of both countries is expected to provide a significant boost for South African cattle farmers.
The beef sector in South Africa has been badly affected recently by a food-and-mouth disease outbreak.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's state visit to Saudi Arabia as part of an investment drive.
The shipments could begin as soon as 2023, which would make Saudi Arabia one of South Africa's biggest beef export markets.
