Malaysia's chicken ceiling price stays at US$1.99

Malaysia's Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) said chickens are being sold below the current ceiling price of MYR 9.40 (~US$1.99; MYR 1 = US$0.21) per kg, Malay Mail reported.
Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, the KPDNHEP Secretary-General, said that the ministry determined the national average price of chicken to be MYR 9.18 (~US$1.94) per kg based on daily price observations on Saturday.
He said in Peninsular Malaysia, chicken costs an average of MYR 9.13 (~US$1.93) per kg and the retail price of chicken is actually less than the MYR 9.40 (~US$1.99) per kg ceiling price.
The ceiling price for retail chicken in Peninsular Malaysia for standard round chicken is set at MYR 9.40 (~US$1.99) per kg, while super chicken is priced at MYR 10.40 (~US$2.20) per kg, according to the maximum price determination for chicken and eggs.
In Peninsular Malaysia, the maximum price for retail chicken eggs is set at MYR 0.45 (~US$0.095) for Grade A, MYR 0.43 (~US$0.091) for Grade B, and MYR 0.41 (~US$0.087) for Grade C. The maximum price for chicken and eggs for the areas of Langkawi, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan varies by zones and districts.
In the meantime, he said that changes in the price of production inputs like grain corn and soybean meal would also have an impact on the cost of chicken and eggs.
