CHS Inc. partners with United Prairie
CHS Inc., a leading farmer-owned cooperative in the US, has agreed in principle to join full service agronomy retailer, United Prairie, as a new partner and owner.
The announcement was made in late September 2014.
Formed in 1996, United Prairie LLC, serves the seed, fertiliser and crop protection needs of central Illinois farmers.
"CHS as a new partner will allow us to bring additional services and cutting-edge technologies to our customers," said Tim Hughes, the general manager of United Prairie, LLC.
Lynden Johnson, the executive vice president of CHS' Country Operations division, added that the investment is a key part of the company's strategic growth plans on behalf of its farmer-owners.
"We are always looking for opportunities to strengthen local resources that ultimately help our owners and other customers grow their operations", Johnson said.
This recent partnership is the latest effort by CHS to enhance its operations with other companies.
In mid-September 2014, CHS acquired a 50% share of Broadbent Grain, an agricultural supply chain management company in Queensland and Victoria, Australia.
"Investing in Broadbent Grain will further expand CHS grain origination capabilities in Australia by adding grain storage, handling and logistical expertise, especially as it relates to delivering wheat via shipping containers to customers across the Asia-Pacific region," said Jon Bucknall, the general manager of CHS Australia.
