Russia's grain production up 48.1%

 

 

Agricultural enterprises of all categories in the Russian Federation produced 87.8 million tonnes of grains in bunker weight as of October 1, 2011, increasing 48.1% as compared to the same period last year, according to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

 

Agricultural enterprises which cultivate 74.2% of sowing areas of grains and leguminous crops in the country excluding corn, harvested grains throughout 86.8% of the general sowing areas as compared to 72% in the same period last year. Taking into account the summer losses of crops sowings and usage for fodder aims, agricultural enterprises still had to harvest nearly 3.4 million hectares or 11% of the sowing areas of grains and leguminous crops excluding corn.

 

The North Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts harvested grains and leguminous plants throughout 93.8% and 95.7% of the areas respectively, the Central District 92.3%, the Volga and Siberian Districts 85.9% and 85.1% respectively, the Northwestern and Far East District 80.7% and 83.2% respectively, the Urals District 62.8%. For harvest 2012, the agricultural enterprises sowed winter crops for grain throughout 8.1 million hectares, up 4.9% compared to 2010. Winter tillage was plowed throughout 10.9 million hectares, decreasing 17%.
