Fall in China live hog prices weigh on locally produced calcium phosphate
An eFeedLink exclusive report
Calcium phosphate trade in China was generally stable in recent days, but prices in most regions fell by RMB40-50/tonne from end-September levels.
As the weather grew cooler recently, calcium biphosphate consumption for aquaculture feed gradually declined. Thus, remaining calcium phosphate supplies in China slightly improved.
Meanwhile, a nationwide fall in live hog prices has dampened buying interests of feed millers for calcium phosphate. Consequently, calcium phosphate trade in China was affected, which increased pressure on inventories of calcium phosphate producers. Thus, calcium phosphate prices in China generally fell in recent days.
Concluding, with an improvement in the low consumption situation seen unlikely anytime soon, analysts expected calcium phosphate prices in China to remain weak in the near term. However, firm phosphorus ore prices in recent days have pushed up production costs of calcium phosphate. Thus, any fall in calcium phosphate prices was seen to be limited.
