In three days, the 9th World Congress on Aquaculture & Fisheries opens in Dubai. This event serves as a platform for scientists and other personnel to discuss issues and policies related to development and conservation of aquatic resources. It will include exhibitions and oral and poster presentations.

 

We've picked six other events slated within the next three months, including a conference of "New Opportunities for Value Creation" on Nov. 15-16 in Madrid, Spain. 9th World Congress on Aquaculture & Fisheries

October 23 – 24, 2017

After Canada and Italy, ConferenceSeries Ltd brings the aquaculture and fisheries congress to the Middle East, particularly Dubai.

 

This event serves as a platform for scientists and other personnel to discuss issues and policies related to development and conservation of aquatic resources. It will include exhibitions and oral and poster presentations.

 

Dubai was chosen to hold this even because its fast-growing population has created a huge gap between demand and supply of seafood in the UAE, tilting the balance in favour of unsustainable imports. Statistics from the Ministry of Environment and Water showed that in 2013, the UAE's fish catch stood at 73,203 tonnes, but consumption of seafood reached around 210,000 tonnes, leaving a deficit of 136,797 tonnes. Food consumption, as with other countries, has increased compared to production.

 

The World Aqua Congress 2017 aims to educates consumers about the future prospects of aquaculture and fishing and risk management. Thus, it will bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results.

Aquaculture Vietnam

Vietnam's international aquaculture industry event will present the latest innovations in aquaculture, fisheries and seafood for the whole value chain, from production to processing and packaging to plate. First Regional Training Course on Culture-based Fisheries

October 29 – November 9, 2017

Nha Trang, Vietnam

 

There are many initiatives underway, which are designed to increase food supply, employment and income opportunities, most of which require considerable capital inputs. Often overlooked are the opportunities to produce more food from the natural productivity of local ecosystems. Culture-based fisheries are one example of a relatively simple and low-cost technology that can deliver nutritional and economic benefits to communities, which often have few livelihood options.

 

The first Regional Training Course on Culture-based Fisheries will be held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on Oct. 29 to Nov. 9. The course is designed to guide development professionals in the design of culture-based fisheries managed by local communities.

Aqua Feed Milling Agrischool Course 

November 6 – 10, 2017

Nakhon Phatom, Thailand 

 

The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of aqua feed mill operations and the latest technology for shrimp and fish feed production.

 

Topics include: raw material management, production planning, operational and financial KPIs, plant maintenance, operational management and design, and pelleting and extrusion.

 

Included in the programme is also a one-day practical exercise in a commercial aqua feed mill.

LACQUA 2017

November 7 – 10, 2017

Mazatlan, Mexico

 

LACQUA 2017 will be the 2017 annual meeting of the Latin American & Caribbean chapter of the World Aquaculture Society.

 

Following upon the successful LACQUA2016 in Peru, LACQUA17 will bring international attention to the aquaculture industry of Mexico and South America.

 

The WAS regional meeting, South American Regional Aquaculture 2016, will join with LACQUA 2017.

 

The conference will include all major aquatic species cultured in Mexico and the other LACC countries with a special focus on shrimp, bagre, tilapia, and shellfish.

 

All Mexican universities with aquaculture programmes and all Mexican producers' associations will be invited to join this event.

Taiwan International Fisheries & Seafood Show

This annual show is organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and My Exhibition Co. 'New Opportunities for Value Creation' Conference

November 15 – 16, 2017

Madrid, Spain

 

This Madrid conference on value addition will open with a session on innovation. Adding value to a product is a way, among others, of expanding the market, distinguishing the product from its competitors, and charging a higher price. Adding value can, for example, transform a block of frozen fish into a refined product with a unit price higher than that of the original block. However, value adding also applies to relatively simple procedures, such as grading and icing the fish when it arrives on board a fishing vessel, which can give the fisherman a higher price for his catch. Processing in this way is desirable for the opportunities it offers to increase the value of the raw material and thereby increase incomes.

 

The importance of value addition in the seafood industry prompted the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment to organise, in collaboration with Eurofish and the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), this conference titled "New opportunities for value creation," which will be held in Madrid on November 15 and 16.

 

The event will feature five sessions on innovation, fish waste, aquaculture, markets and consumption. The latter is of particular interest to the Spanish government and institutions because consumption of seafood in Spain, though still impressive, has been falling of late.
