Cell Aquaculture's barramundi facility opens in Thailand
Cell Aquaculture on Monday (Oct 18) announced that it began commercial production of Australian barramundi at its new production facilities in Thailand.
The site has the capacity to produce about 500 tonnes of fish annually, with the potential of acquiring an adjoining site that would boost production capabilities to 1,000 tonnes.
The company is also developing domestic and export markets through its wholly owned subsidiary Cell Aqua Foods for its Eco-Star range of premium fresh, smoked and value-added barramundi products.
"We are extremely pleased with the rapid progress we have made on this venture and our dedicated operations team should be commended for their efforts," said Perry Leach, the company's executive chairman. "Being a company-owned facility, we can now push ahead at our desired pace. Our Thailand site suits our needs perfectly and we now have very ambitious plans for the development of this project."
The company also has a number of large-scale land-based re-circulating seafood production projects in Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa.
