Companies in Germany produced 21.7 million tonnes of compound feed in 2023/24 marketing year

According to Germany's Federal Information Center for Agriculture (BZL), 264 companies in the country produced a total of 21.7 million tonnes of compound feed during the 2023/24 marketing year.

While the volume of poultry feed produced increased by almost 2% to 6.3 million tonnes, the volume of pig feed produced decreased slightly. Nevertheless, swine feed remains the most important type of feed with 8.1 million tonnes.

For the total production volume, almost 19.2 million tonnes of reported raw materials were processed. The use of cereals in compound feed increased slightly to 48.8%, with almost 10.6 million tonnes in 2023/24 (10.5 million tonnes in 2022/23).

In contrast, the use of oilseed meals in compound feed decreased slightly, with almost 5.5 million tonnes in 2023/24 (-2% compared to the previous year).

The majority of compound feed manufacturers (157 companies) in Germany are located in the northern federal states, such as Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Schleswig-Holstein.

Around 21% are located in southern Länder, such as Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland.

Fifty-one companies are located in the east of the country.
