First Milk to close cheese plant after contract loss
After the loss of a "significant customer contract", British dairy processor First Milk has announced plans to close its Maelor cheese packing facility near Wrexham in Wales.
First Milk informed staff of the proposed closure following a strategic review of the site, which found it was no longer economically viable for the facility to remain operational.
The proposed closure, which may take place by the end of May 2014, could affect up to 231 employees. A consultation period with employees and their trade union representatives will begin shortly, the company added.
