Brazil may take up WTO action against EU chicken tariffs
Brazil is considering taking up action in the WTO against the EU for its tariffs on Brazilian chicken, a spokesperson from Brazil's Foreign Trade Council, Camex, said.
The EU, which accounts for close to 90 percent of Brazil's processed chicken meat exports, is increasing tariffs on imported Brazilian processed poultry meats.
Brazil exported 355,000 tonnes of chicken to the EU in the first eight months of this year, including processed chicken meat, according to Brazilian Association of Chicken Producers and Exporters, or Abef.
Two negotiations held between Abef and EU negotiators in September, as required by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, had fallen through.
