ASF outbreak confirmed in Imphal West district, Manipur, India

 
 

 

The outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Indian state Manipur's Imphal West district has been confirmed by the Manipur veterinary department, India Today reported on October 14.

 

A pig farm in Eroisemba in Imphal West, has been declared as the epicentre of the outbreak.

 

"No pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area, dead or alive, which is infected or reasonably suspected to have been infected and any kind of feed or material which could have come into contact with such animal," an official notification read.

 

The notification was issued in pursuance of the directive of Manipur government's Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department on October 13.

 

Imphal West Deputy Commissioner and Director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services Ng Ibotombi Singh has been asked to ensure that immediate measures are initiated to contain the spread of ASF.
