Municipality in Lower Saxony, Germany, ends ASF measures
All measures implemented — following the detection of African swine fever (ASF) months earlier on a pig farm — were lifted in the municipality of Emsbüren, district of Emsland (Lower Saxony), Germany.
On July 4, the first case of ASF was confirmed in Lower Saxony, Germany's leading pig-producing state. The disease was detected on a farm with 280 sows and about 1,500 piglets, about 20km from the Dutch border.
As a consequence, a protection zone with a radius of three kilometers and a surveillance zone with a radius of ten kilometers were established around the outbreak in Emsbüren. Since then, no further cases of ASF have been detected on other pig farms or in the wild boar population. As such, after 90 days, all restrictive measures can be lifted.
