Possible ASF case in Iloilo, Philippines
The province of Iloilo, the Philippines, has logged a suspected African swine fever (ASF) case, despite a ban on the entry of pork from other parts of the country with confirmed ASF cases, the Manila Bulletin reported last week.
"As of now, it is still a suspected case," said Dr. Darel Tabuada, chief provincial veterinarian.
Tabuada told Iloilo media in a press conference on October 13, that his office is still awaiting the confirmatory test from the Metro Manila laboratory of the Bureau of Animal Industry, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The suspected ASF case was recorded in a semi-commercial hog farm in Oton. Six hogs have died so far.
The provincial government is coordinating with the local government of Oton led by Mayor Sofronio Fusin Jr. to implement the necessary measures against ASF.
The provincial government is working together with the Oton Municipal Agriculture Office to check the population of hogs within the radius of 0.5 kilometer of the hog farm.
Tabuada added there is a current border control within the area.
