Pakistani province launches national backyard poultry farming initiative

 


Pakistan's Backyard Poultry Farming initiative was launched by Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Mahmood Khan, under the National Agricultural Emergency programme, RS-NEWS reported.

 

Over the next four years, 1,000,000 chickens will be distributed to eligible families at subsidised rates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

 

On an annual basis, a unit that comprise of a rooster and five hens will be given for Rs1,050 (~US$6.74) and Rs.40,000.

 

The chief minister, while addressing a ceremony, said that his government is focusing on the growth of oppressed segments of society. The initiative would economically help farmers including women.

 

The national government is also planning to distribute two million chickens to families in Punjab, one million each to families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, half a million each to families in Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
