Market analysis

Corn prices softened lately, helping lysine producers to lower production costs. As demand was weak after early October's long holidays, producers cut prices in attempts to engage buyers.

Meanwhile, CJ has scheduled to halt production of its plant in Shenyang, Liaoning for six months starting late October. Supplies of lysine are expected to decrease by 50,000 tonnes.

In Europe, price quotes for Q4 deliveries were higher in the range of EUR1.32-1.40/kg.

Market forecast

Despite CJ's production halt, supplies of lysine are seen ample in China due to the high capacity of the industry. With corn costs poised to move lower amid abundant availability, and the demand for animal feed sluggish with inventories diminished, lysine market is set to stay weak in the coming period.
