China hopes its trade dispute with the US over a zeroing measure against Chinese frozen shrimp can be resolved as soon as possible, an official from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said.

China appealed on Thursday (Oct 13) for the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to set up an expert team to help settle the dispute.

The legitimate rights of China's warm-water shrimp industry has been impeded by the zeroing measure and disproportionately high tariffs adopted by the US, the official said.

On December 8, 2004, the US decided to slap anti-dumping duties of up to 112.81% on Chinese shrimp.

On February 28, 2011, China requested consultations with the US under the dispute settlement system concerning the latter's anti-dumping measures on certain frozen warm-water shrimp from China.

Chinese exporters brought their case to US courts, but lost a final appeal.
