Ukraine's pig, sheep, poultry numbers up; cattle down

 

 

The number of pigs in Ukraine on Oct 1 was 8.099 million, 10.9 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Monday (Oct 16).

 

The number of poultry at the same day was 197,100 million, an increase of 0.77 percent compared with Sep 1, 2005.

 

The number of cattle in the country on Oct 1 was 7.025 million, a fall of 2.75 percent compared with Oct 1, 2005.

 

The number of sheep and goats increased by 0.48 percent on year to 1.924 million.

 

Currently some 200 new pig farms are being constructed in the country, with the number of pigs expected to increase by 2 million in the course of the year.
