Polish live pig exports relatively high in H1
Polish exports of live pigs were at a relatively high level in the first half of 2009, being 8-percent higher year-on-year at EUR29.7 million (US$44.3 million).
According to Poland's Central Statistics Office, a breakdown of the overall export figure reveals exports to the EU fell substantially year-on-year in the January to June period, but exports to other central and eastern European countries rose substantially year-on-year.
In dollar terms, Polish live pig exports fell by 6.2 percent year-on-year in first half of 2009.
Media reports said that Polish live pig imports approximately doubled year-on-year to EUR52.8 million in the first half of 2009, with imports also showing a substantial year-on-year increase in dollar terms.
