China's Guangdong exports less poultry, but earns more

The value of poultry exports from China's southern Guangdong province, which supplies poultry to Hong Kong, has risen 27 percent on-year to US$14.23 million.

Although the value of exports have gone up, volumes have slid 10.7 percent on-year to reach 1.24 million heads, reflecting the higher prices of poultry meat, according to the latest information released by Guangzhou Customs.

The total live poultry export volume was 11.1 million in the first nine months of 2007.

Hong Kong imposed a 21-day ban on poultry exports from the province after bird flu was discovered in a village in Guangzhou recently.
