Poland's National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers have projected a PLN 1.5 billion (~US$392 million; PLN 1 = US$0.26) this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The First News Poland reported.

According to the chamber, poultry firms in Poland lost PLN 675 million (~US$176 million) between January to July this year because of lower imports.

Katarzyna Gawronska, director of the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers, said exports dropped 3.7% within the first seven months of this year, but its 10% when counted in terms of value. This resulted in Polish poultry companies earning EUR 151 million less when compared to 2019.

Gawronska said poultry farming in Poland is slow to adapt to shifting conditions, for example the industry does not limit production in response to low demand.

She said the domestic poultry sector maintains high production, resulting in lower poultry prices.

The National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers said poultry meat exports from Poland was worth EUR 1.34 billion (~US$350 million) between January to July this year. It was EUR 1.49 million (~US$389 million) during the same period in 2019.
