Irish milk intake up 11.2% in August
Irish domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers in August was estimated at 777.7million litres, up 11.2% (or 78.4 million litres) year-on-year, data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.
Milk intake during the first eight months was 8.1% more than last year.
Milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers refers to whole milk bought by creameries and pasteurisers from domestic producers through collection depots and separating stations. It includes whole milk obtained from herds owned by the creameries and pasteurisers. The fat content of the whole milk is also collected.
CSO said a total of 5,461,600,000 litres were produced on Irish dairy farms from January to August.
Total milk sold for human consumption in August increased by 0.4 % to 45.2 million litres.
