Farmland Foods injects fund to revive Illinois plant
Farmland Foods pledged to invest US$12 million in its Monmouth facility, a pork-processing plant at western Illinois to retain 1,400 jobs and add another 50.
The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will also administer a US$8.8-million investment package for the plant.
Farmland will be able to replace outmoded technology and improve its waste water treatment to remove pollutants before discharging it into the sewer system.
Farmland Foods is a wholly owned subsidiary of Smithfield Foods Inc, the world's largest pork processor and hog producer. The Monmouth facility was purchased by Farmland Foods in 1993.
