Malaysia's Terramark to build US$85 million poultry farm

In a joint venture with the state government, Malaysia's Terramark Sdn Bhd will build a MYR270 million (US$85 million) poultry farm at Chuping, Perlis, Malaysia, with an annual production capacity of 27 million birds.

The integrated green technology project on about 80 hectares of land, the first investment by the state government under Azlan's leadership, is expected to create 700 jobs for local residents.

By next year, infrastructure construction in the Chuping sugarcane growing area will begin and be fully completed in five years.

Terramark, set up by parent company Seloga Holdings Bhd on March 12, will also build a four-hectare chicken feed factory in Padang Besar, with the corn feedstock to be imported from Cambodia.

Meanwhile, state Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman Sabry Ahmad said Terramark has agreed to pay the state government, which holds a 10% stake in the poultry project, MYR325,500 (US$102,000) a year in land premium, land tax and profit contributions from the third to 10th year of operations.

The collaboration agreement between Perlis government and Terramark Sdn Bhd would turn the state as one of the main poultry producers in the country. Under the collaboration, Terramark Sdn Bhd will invest MYR270 million (US$85 million) to build an integrated modern poultry farm on a piece of land leased by the state government in Chuping.

The company will also build a feed mill facility in Titi Tinggi, Padang Besar, under the agreement.
